February 4th, 1886

Died- Kirby, Eugene, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Kirby, after a brief illness, on last Friday morning at their home six miles northeast of Silver City. He was a child of much promise, greatly beloved by all who knew him. To those who most tenderly loved him he gave sweet assurance, that, to die in Jesus is blessed. Dutiful, kind here on earth,has gone to serve in "a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." The grief stricken family have this truth to acquiesce in: "The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." The funeral services were held Sabbath afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal church, attended by a large gathering of sympathizing friends.
