A well known, and well loved resident of Rawles township passed away at her home on April 16, after an illness of nine weeks. The funeral occurred Saturday from the home conducted by Rev. Frank Caldwell of Malvern, and burial was in the Malvern cemetery.

Harriet Newell Phipps was born near Jacksonville, Ill., June 11, 1837, and died April 16, 1914, aged 76 years, 10 months and 5 days. She was united in marriage to Jay Hodges, Oct 15, 1869.

To this union seven children were born. Of these children five are living, and were at her bedside in her last hours. They are Edward, Norman, Linnie, Guy and Fred. The children, Nellie and Elmer, preceded her in death several years ago. Her husband passed from life Dec. 24, 1910. Besides her children, she is mourned by two brothers and three sisters. They are William Phipps, Mrs. Sarah Walker, Elvira and Henrietta Phipps, all of Glenwood, and Henry Phipps of Fremont, Neb. Nine grandchildren mourn the death of a beloved grandmother.

Mrs. Hodges united with the Methodist church in early life and remained through life true to its teachings. She bore her illness patiently, and ever was ready, in her days of health, to help a neighbor. Every one said, when death claimed her, that a good woman had ceased her earthly labors. That she was a home-loving woman.
