Cecil Warren Vermuele, 78, of Malvern, died Jan. 30, 2005, at his home. Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at the Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern. Duane Malloy officiated the services. Burial was at the Malvern Cemetery.

Mr. Vermuele was the son of Frank Pierce and Sara (Dillivan) Vermuele, born May 21, 1926, in Lake City. He grew up in Lanesboro, where he attended school until the seventh grade. Following school, he farmed and then spent three years in the U.S. Air Force, where he was a tail gunner and earned the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. After the service, he returned to Council Bluffs and worked at the Cudahy meat processing plant. In 1949, he married Goldie Geraldine Williams, and their marriage was blessed with six children. They divorced in 1962. In 1964, Mr. Vermuele met Elsie Jane Malloy in Council Bluffs. They were married on Nov. 5, 1969, in Papillion, Neb. The marriage was blessed with Mr. Vermuele’s six children and Elsie’s four children. They made their home in the Iowa towns of Malvern, Hancock, Avoca, Council Bluffs and Minden, where Mr. Vermuele worked as a farm hand and a maintenance man. In the fall of 1990, the family returned to Malvern. Mr. Vermuele was a member of the Malvern American Legion. His enjoyments included collecting John Deere equipment and working on small engines.

Mr. Vermuele was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Donna Rae Salmons; brothers Lester, Lyle, Simion, Dolly, Virgil and Gerald; grandsons Jeremy and Carl Salmons II; granddaughter Billie Jo Salmons; and great-grandsons Jason, Mathew, Alexander and Jeremy Salmons. He is survived by wife Elsie Vermuele of Malvern; children Jim Salmons and wife Vicki of Council Bluffs, Pamela Hunt and husband Rich of Osage Beach, Mo., William Salmons and wife Rexanna of Malvern, Cathy Clarahan and husband James of Las Vegas, Nev,. Carl Salmons and wife Sherry of Minden, Barbara Winchel and husband William of Council Bluffs, Debra Coleman and husband Charles of Malvern, Cecil Vermuele Jr. and wife Julia of Council Bluffs, Bruce Vermuele and wife Linda of Fort Jennings, Ohio, and John Vermuele and wife Tricia of Council Bluffs; sister Henrietta Burnett and husband Walter of Ceresco, Neb.; brother Arthur Vermuele of Council Bluffs; 36 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
