Irene Joan Wunschel 75, of Malvern, died Nov. 16, 2004, at the Manor of Malvern Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Nov. 20 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hastings. Rev. Benjamin Harju officiated the services.

Mrs. Wunschel was the daughter of George Ivan and Goldie Viola (Boyce) White, born June 17, 1929, near Glenwood. She attended West Liberty country school near their farm home and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1946. She taught country school in 1947. She married Adolph Cashmere Janulewicz on June 10, 1948, at the Glenwood Christian Church. She settled into the life of a farm wife as they began their farming career together near Silver City, Their marriage was blessed with two children. They purchased a farm southwest of Malvern, which became home to the Janulewicz family. She began working at the Manor of Malvern Nursing Home. They had been married 29 years when Mr. Janulewicz died on Dec. 31, 1977. Following his death she accepted a position at Hillside Manor in Glenwood, where she was twice honored as employee of the month. She eventually replaced the original farm house with a new home. She did babysitting in her home for 10 years. She married her neighbor, Gary Lee Wunschel of Malvern, on Feb. 14, 1985. They first lived in her home until 1991, when Mr. Wunschel built their new house. She enjoyed her duties of a homemaker. Her enjoyments included spending time with her family and friends and her church activities. While living near Silver City, she was a member and taught Sunday school at the Silver City United Methodist Church. After moving to Malvern, she joined the Malvern United Methodist Church, where she served on the Administrative Council. Following her marriage to Mr. Wunschel, she was confirmed on June 1, 1986, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She took an active part in the services at St. John’s, attended Bible study and helped wherever needed.

Mrs. Wunschel was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Cash and brothers Clifford White and George White. She is survived by husband Gary Wunschel of Malvern; daughter Linda Jefferson and companion Jan Herrington of South Sioux City, Neb., and Linda’s daughters Tracy Ellinger and husband Brian of Homer, Neb., and Kristin Herron and husband Rod of South Sioux City; son Larry Janulewicz and wife Donna of Olathe, Kan., and their sons Tim Himes and wife Sara and Christopher Himes, all of Omaha, Neb.; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Verna White of Harrah, OkIa,, and Gladys White of Hagerstown, Md.; and other relatives and friends.

Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern was in charge of arrangements
