Curtis L. “Red” Steuart, 75, of Glenwood, died Nov. 4, 2004, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Graveside services were held Nov. 8 at the Glenwood Cemetery. Pastor Darrell Hopp officiated the services.

Mr. Steuart was the son of Floyd Allen and Emma Ruby (Wiltse) Steuart, born Nov. 23, 1928, near Pisgah in Harrison County. His mother died when he was 5 years old, and he went to live in the I.O.O.F. orphanage in Mason City with another brother. Mr. Steuart attended school there until the age of 16 and then stayed for another two years. When he was 18, he moved to a farm near Logan to live with his sister and her family. He stayed there briefly and then came to Glenwood to live at the Glenwood State Hospital-School. While there, he became a supervisor of a children’s cottage. After spending some time at the hospital he was released, but he continued to live in the Glenwood area doing odd jobs, operating a lawn service and fixing and repairing lawn mowers. He was known by many people as being very friendly and affable.

Mr. Steuart was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Howard, Lloyd and Ross; and sister LaVica Leonard. He is survived by sisters-in-law Irene Steuart of Belle Plaine and Jean Steuart of Davenport; 11 nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood was in charge of arrangements.
