William F. Tollinger Funeral Held September 10
The funeral service for William F. Tollinger, whose death was announced in last week’s Leader, was held Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 1929 in the Emerson Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Lucius L. Smith.
A male quartet, Ira N. Cheney, Horace Greenwood, Dr. E. L. Johnson, and Ray Fields, with Mrs. Horace Greenwood as accompanist, sang.
Interment was made in the Emerson Cemetery. the pall bearers were John Carson, Willis Patrick, W. W. Abel, Elmer Bass, Walter Short, and Horace Ewing.
The following obituary was given:
William F. Tollinger, second son of Ablert and Susan Tollinger, was born at Bridgeton, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, November 24, 1860 and died at his home in Emerson, September 7, 1929 at the age of sixty-eight years, nine months, and thirteen days.
With his parents he came to Emerson, Mills county, Iowa in 1875 and where he continued to make his home, with the exception of a period of several years spent in Nebraska. In his youth he went to Wayne, Nebraska, with the spirit of the pioneer and humanity activities and welfare.
Mr. Tollinger was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, having joined it as a lad and was always active in its work. He was a lover of music and was a member of the church choir when a young man.
He was a lover of children and with his kindly spirit and genial nature, he won there hearts and affection.
He leaves to mourn his passing in death, his wife, his brother Mack, of Kansas City Missouri and a half brother, Albert of Omaha, Nebraska.
