W.C. Franklin, an old soldier and a newcomer to these parts, died last night at 9:30 of heart trouble at his home in the Charles Record place north of Glenwood. The family came to Glenwood two months ago from Colorado where they had resided a few months, previous to which time their home had been near Creston. The deceased is survived by a wife, and five children. The widow is a sister of George Ostrander. Mr. Franklin served three years in the civil war as a member of the 22nd Iowa. The time of the funeral has not been announced.

Later - The funeral will be held from the home at 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, burial at West Liberty.

W.C. Franklin died in Glenwood Thursday night, aged 67 years. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ward of the Methodist church, Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, and interment occurred in West Liberty cemetery. Mr. Franklin was born in Ohio, and came with his parents when he was about eighteen months of age, first settling in Johnson county, and later to Mills county. In 1891 he was married to Miss Alice Ostrander. Two sons and three daughters survive him. He served in the army against the rebellion in the 22 Iowa infantry, doing faithful and valuable service for his country. He had been ill for several months, and recently spent several weeks at the residence of his brother-in-law, G.T. Ostrander, three miles out from Glenwood, and he had only returned to town a few days before death overtook him.
