FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY FOR PIONEER RESIDENT
A Large Concourse of Friends Assemble to Pay Tribute to Memory of M.T. Deupree.

G.A.R. ESCORT OF HONOR
Mr. Deupree Had Lived in This Community for Over 66 Years and Was One of Its Most Highly Respected Citizens.

In the scheme of life the privilege of living for sixty-six continuous years in one locality is accorded to but few. This however was the privilege enjoyed by Mose Deupree who came to Mills county when but a lad of seventeen and who left it only when he went with his Northern comrades into battle in defense of the Union and when the smoke of civil conflict rolled away he once more returned to this community which was home to him. It is a privilege indeed to live nearly three-quarters of a century in one locality but to live such a life as Mose Deupree lived was more, it was a blessing to this community.

The large concourse of friends and neighbors who assembled on last Sunday afternoon to pay one last tribute to his memory was proof of the esteem in which he was held. The funeral services were held from the Christian church in this city, of which he was a member. His former pastor and close friend, Rev. D.S. Thompson, now of Havelock, Neb., had charge of the services, assisted by the present pastor, Rev. A.A. Wright. Twelve comrades of his who followed the stars and stripes, as he did, into the smoke of battle that we might have the great union of states which we have today, formed an escort of honor. His brothers of the I.O.O.F. lodge were present in a body. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet consisting of Mesdames J.N. Sawyers, F.A. Sullivan and Messrs. F.V. Kemp and Shirley Gilliland, with Mrs. Rhoads at the piano. The pallbearers were W.C. Marshall, O.V. Byers, Will Agan, T.J. McGarry, Art Evans and William (not legible).

The Odd Fellows had charge of the services at the grave using their beautiful and impressive ritualistic service which was given under the direction of W.C. Rathke and J.L. Ross and the body was laid to rest underneath a bank of flowers. Inadequate, indeed, is the tribute of words, to the life of one such as Mose Deupree. Unnecessary is any monument to his memory. By his kindly consideration of others, his sense of justice and honesty and his sterling character he has builded for himself a place in the esteem of his neighbors which is the highest tribute which can be accorded any man.

Moses Thomas Deupree, son of Edwin P. and Rebecca Deupree, was born in Johnson County, Indiana, on June 9, 1843, and died at his home in Glenwood, Iowa on October 7, 1926, at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 28 days. In 1847 he moved with his parents to Livingston County, Missouri. His mother died there and his father was remarried to Eliza Jane Hutchison. In 1853, he moved to Mills County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. At the age of 17, he joined the Christian church and remained affiliated with this church until his death.

At the age of 18, he enlisted in Company B, 29th Iowa Regiment to aid in the defense of his country. He served in the army until the end of the war. In 1879 he married Emma Moore. Two children were born to them, Mary Marshall and Charles Deupree. Both of these are living in Glenwood and were at his deathbed. Besides his wife and two children, Mr. Deupree is survived by four brothers, J.R. Deupree of Glenwood, Iowa; A.C. Deupree of Woodbine, Iowa; J.M. Deupree of Kiowa, Colo.; Charles Deupree of Neligh, Neb.; one sister, Martha Woodrum of Ogden, Utah, and one granddaughter, Genevieve Marshall, daughter of Mary Marshall. Besides these brothers and sisters he leaves many other relatives and hosts of friends to mourn his death.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral services were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Arch Deupree and children, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Deupree, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McHenry, all of Woodbine; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Deupree of Neligh, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. John Hallam and Mrs. Jennie Tipton of Tabor; James Moore of Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. John Moore of Silver City; Arch Sivers of Carson; H.B. and Elihu Cheney of Emerson.
