DR. J. R. SCOTT OF MALVERN COMMITTED SUICIDE SATURDAY

J. R. Scott, 72, and for 40 Years Practicing Physician in Malvern Shot Self Saturday — Funeral will be Wednesday

Dr. J. R. Scott, 72, practicing physician of Malvern for 40 years, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a 32-caliber revolver shortly before noon Saturday while his wife was down town.

Dr. Scott, who was obsessed with the fear he was losing his mind, had returned Friday from Immanuel hospital in Omaha, where he had been under treatment. He previously had been a patient at Immanuel. Each time he returned home improved. He first suffered a nervous breakdown last spring and had been able to go to his office only once since that time. Dr. Scott had specialized in child diseases. Coroner F. H. Raynor of Glenwood, after reviewing the case, paid no inquest would be held.

He is survived by a son, Walter, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and a sister, Mrs. Allen Chantry, wife of Naval Commander Chantry of Washington, D. C., and by his widow. Funeral services will be held at the home in Malvern at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Rev. White of the Presbyterian church In charge of the service, and burial will be made in the Malvern cemetery.
