Edward H. Janssen, 81, Pacific Junction

Edward Howard Janssen, 81, of Pacific Junction, died July 5, 2003, at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Funeral services were held July 8, 2003, at the Hertz Funeral Home in Glenwood. Burial was at the Martin Chapel Cemetery in Pacific Junction.

Mr. Janssen was the son of George Harm and Sadie Marie (Klinger) Janssen, born October 18, 1921, in Flasher, North Dakota. He grew up in the Pecatonica, Illinois area where he attended school.

On October 25, 1942 he was inducted into the U.S. Army. While serving in Louisiana, he was injured in an accident and became disabled. He received a medical discharge on July 23, 1943.

He married Leanna Marie Fisher, of Pacific Junction, on June 15, 1948, in Creston. They made their home in Pacific Junction. Their marriage was blessed with seven children. Mr. Janssen worked for Omaha Steel and later worked in area packing houses and as a farm laborer. He last worked as a night watchman at the Glenwood State Hospital-School and had been retired for 22 years. His enjoyments included woodworking and making yard ornaments and decorations.

Mr. Janssen was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Mary Lou; sisters Anna Salmon, Mary Janssen, Clara Ingram, Mabel Swanson, Susie Anderson, Julia Kramel, Mae Erickson and Vernice Hurlbutt; and brother George Janssen Jr. He is survived by his wife, Leanna; children Lulu Truhlicka and husband Frank of Hatton, North Dakota. Nancy Anglen of Pacific Junction, Caleb Janssen and wife Elida of Swisher, Lola Michaelsen and husband Harry of Pacific Junction, Loyd Janssen and wife Brigitte of Pacific Junction and Leonard Janssen and wife Tracey of Niceville, Florida; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters Alice Tourand and Louise Cox, both of Bakersfield, California; brother Henry Janssen of Pecatonica; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Hertz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
