Charles Edwin Carr, son of Dr. Lancelot and Nancy Sherwln Carr was born in Flowertown, Pendleton County, Kentucky, Oct. 6, 1848.
Mr. Carr was taken sick the fore part of the week and becoming worse was taken on Thursday to the Edmundson hospital where he was operated on the same night without avail for he passed away the same night.

In 1866 he crossed the Plains with his parents, going from Flowertown, Ky., to Quincy, Plumas-Co., Calif., with ox teams. They remained on the gold field district ten years and the return trip was made by water crossing the Isthmus of Panama and landing in New York City and then coming to Ames, .la.
When a young man he learned the brick mason and plasterer's trade, doing the first work on the Iowa State Capitol amd the State Agricultural College buildings. June 28, 1870, he came to Emerson on the advice of an old friend, D. M. Tomblin, and decided to stay In Emerson. He worked at his trade for forty years, retiring on account of his age. He was also the assessor for the town of Emerson for a period of forty years, still holding that office at the time of his death.
He was the oldest resident of Emerson, having lived here fifty years, the 28th of June.
On March 26, 1874, he was united, in marriage to Sadie R. Sutton. To this union were born four children, Florence E. Short and Byron Lancelot Carr of Emerson, Hazel Nelle Grelner of Denver, Colo., Rose Myrtle, all of whom are living and were present excepting the last named who died Sept. 8, 1878.

He, is survived by his wife, two daughters, one son and a little grandson Joseph Jackson Greiner, and two sisters, Mrs. Nannie White of Quincy, Calif., and Mrs. R. L. Eddy of Elsmore, Calif;, who mourn the loss of a devoted husband) a loving father and brother.

Mr. Carr was taken ill about a week ago, when his condition became so serious that he was taken to the Jennie Edmundson hospital that afternoon accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Short and Dr. J. .W. Weed. He was operated on late that afternoon but passed away that night.at 11 p. m. Death being caused by acute intestinal, obstruction caused by carcinomatous growth in the abdominal organs.

Funeral services were held from the Town Hall. Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Mr. Doyle, pastor of the M.E. Church had charge of the services. Interment was made in the Emerson cemetery
