FUNERAL SERVICES FOR PROMINENT HASTINGS RESIDENT
Lynn K. Mason Passed Away Suddenly at His Home In Hastings, Funeral Held Wednesday
WAS AN ARDENT SPORTSMAN
Prominent in Insurance Work. Had Lived in Hastings 54 Years. Was Born in Brookfield, New York, 77 Years go Age
Lynn K. Mason, one of Mills County’s highly respected pioneer residents answered the Death Angel’s summons at his home in Hastings, Iowa on Sunday afternoon, April 8. Although Mr. Mason had been in failing health for some time, his condition was not considered critical and his sudden summons due to heart failure, came as a shock to family and friends.
He had resided in Hastings for more than 56 years, was an ardent sportsman, and great lover of nature and the outdoors. For many years he has maintained a cottage in Lake Okoboji, where he spent the greater part of his summers with his family and friends. His knowledge of the fishing grounds was equalled by but a few. He was very fond of hunting and his skill was well known among his family and friends.
Funeral services was held Wednesday afternoon, April 11 at 2 o’clock from the home conducted by District Superintendent M. A. Gable of Council Bluffs, a former pastor of Hastings. A special choir furnished the music. The pall bearers were F. H. Priest, D. M. Cook, F. B. Rockerfellow, and R. K. Robins.
Lynn Knapp Mason was born in Brookfield, New York August 13, 1850 and passed away peacefully on Easter morning, at the age of 77 years, 7 months, and 26 days. He was the second son of Levi and Emily Mason. The family moved to Clayville, New York when he was two years old, where all his boyhood days were spent. When 21 years old he joined the Presbyterian Church. On August 25, 1872, he was united in marriage with Miss Ida A. Mason. Although the same name, they were not related. They came to Hastings on their wedding day where they have made their made their home ever since. On his arrival he took up a position in the Bosbyshed Store where he worked for five years. Later he went into the grain business for himself. He has been a successful agent for the Bankers Life Insurance for the past thirty years. Mr, Mason was one of the oldest men in the company.
In 1877 a Congregational Church was organized in Hastings of which he was an active member serving as Sunday School superintendent for a number of years.
Five children blessed this union, two sons and three daughters, Ruth May Genung of Bassett, Nebraska, George L. Mason of Edgerton, Wyoming, Ina L. Sewing of Mineola, Iowa, Helen K. Bownan of Hastings, and Walter K. Mason of Malvern, who proceeded his father a year ago.
