Fred G. Gemmell, 91, of Malvern died July 31, 2001 at Midlands Community Hospital in Papillion, Neb. Funeral services were August 4, 2001 at Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home with burial in the Malvern Cemetery. Rev. Fred Pilecki officiated the services.

Mr. Gemmell was the son of Robert James and Ellen (Tharp) Gemmel, born August 5, 1909 in Carroll, Neb. He graduated from Carroll High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He worked in Omaha and Kansas City selling bus tickets. He was married to Doris Lucille Fickel on June 14, 1936 near Malvern. They had been married for 27 years when she died July 20, 1963. In the 30’s he farmed near Malvern until 1950 when he began working at Farm Service of Malvem operating a bulk fuel truck. Prior to his marriage to Cora Dell (Trimmer) Hamilton on August 8, 1966, he fell from the top of his fuel truck and broke his neck. He was hospitalized for six week and they were then married at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs. After his recovery he returned to Farm Service and worked several more years before his retirement. He enjoyed reading and traveling with his wife. He was a member of the Malvern United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. In October, 1997, they moved from their home in Malvern to Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. In July, 2001, they moved to the Gretna Community Living Center in Gretna, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Doris; brothers, Donald, John, Ralph and Allan Gemmell; sister, Jeanne Smith; and step-daughter, Joan Christiansen.

Survivors include his wife, Cora; sons, Robert Gemmell and wife Karen of Minneapolis, Minn., Daniel Gemmell and wife Cherie of St. Joseph, Mo.; daughter, Lucille Patrick of Clyde, Texas; step-daughters, Shirley Alderson and husband Bob of Omaha, Neb., Geraldine Hardman of Malvern; sisters, Wilma Kidd and husband Jessie, and Elizabeth Norris, all of San Angelo, Texas, Jessie Back of Olympia, Wash., Elsie Whitney of Norfolk, Neb.; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 21 step-great-grandchildren, eight step-great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
