The Grim Reaper Takes Two Well Known and Respected Persons formerly of Emerson

ALEXANDER W. COPPAGE.
A. W. Coppage, formerly of Emerson, died at his home in Omaha Tuesday morning between the hours of 12 and 1 o'clock after suffering a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Coppage had suffered two strokes before leaving Emerson and was in a very feeble state of health so that when he suffered the third stroke, which came on him last Sunday morning, there was no hope for his recovery. His son Elbridge came from Stanton and with Delbert and the loving wife stayed with him until the end came.

He was brought to Emerson Wednesday for burial and funeral services were held Presbyterian church at 2 p. Wednesday, conducted by Rev.
Sweeney. A large concourse old friends and neighbors attended to do honor to the man they had known and respected for so many years.

Alexander W. Coppage was born in Rush County, Ind., Oct. 27, 1837, and came to Henry county, Illinois., in 1856. In 1802 he enlisted in the 91st Illinois. Infantry, Co. B, and served during the war being mastered out in 1885. He then returned to Illinois where he continued to make his home.

He was married in 1873 to Miss Ella M. Marshall and they came to Emerson, Iowa, in 1875, locating on a farm just north of town where they made their home until a few years ago when they built them a pretty home In the west part of Emerson which they occupied until a few months ago when they went to Omaha to be with their children. Three children were born to them, Alta, Elbridge and Delbert, all of whom survive him.

Mr. Coppage was a good man, an honorable upright citizen and a kind husband and father. He was ever to be found upon the since of right and was actively interested in every good cause as long as his health permitted.

He will be greatly missed from his old home. Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved wife and children.
