MALVERN. Death of Rev. Bates. - - Rev. G.W. Bates passed away at his home in Malvern Thursday, Feb. 14th after a long illness; his trouble was from his heart and caused him great suffering, but through it all he was a patient sufferer, and only waiting for the call to come up higher.

He was a minister in the M.E. church for 34 years, but his health failing he was compelled to give up the work, and came to Malvern nearly a year ago with his wife that they might be near their daughter, Mrs. Frank Bridges, who resides here, and with the hope that rest and a change might benefit his health, but the change did him no permanent good and he has gradually failed till the end came.

The funeral was held at his late home and was conducted by Rev. A.E. Slothower of the M.E. church assisted by Rev. McDowell of the Baptist church. Interment was made in the Malvern cemetery.
