Mrs. James B. Parker Dead

Passes Away Suddenly at Her Home North of Hastings, Feb. 10, Funeral Sunday at Wesley Chapel

Mrs. James B. Parker, one of Mills County's long time residents, was called to her reward Friday, February 10th, at her home north of Hastings, after a brief illness. The funeral was held from the Wesley Chapel church Sunday at 11:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. M. R. Talley of Ankeny, assisted by Rev. J.W. Wright of Hastings, and was largely attended by old neighbors and friends who had long known her and loved and honored her memory.

The pallbearers were the nine stalwart sons of the deceased.

The deceased was one of Mills County's best women, a good neighbor, and a noble, loving wife and mother. The sorrowing family have our deepest sympathy in their sorrow. The following obituary was read at the sevices:

OBITUARY

Mary A. Richmond was born in Marion County, Ohio, Feb. 26, 1847, where she lived with her parents until she was about 12 years of age, when her mother died and the remaining members of the family moved to Wyandot County, Ohio, where on December 12, 1865, she was united in marriage to Mr. J.B. Parker. Their residence was continued in that locality until March 1882, when they removed to Mills County, Iowa, where they have continued to make their home up to the time of her death.

Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Parker, two of whom, Clara and Grace, preceded their mother to the invisible world.

Clara passed away in her 32nd year, on Sept, 18, 1900 and Grace in her 39th year, Jan. 12, 1907.

About a year ago Mrs. Parker was taken seriously ill and for a time her life seemed to be hanging in the balance, though there was subsequently some improvement, her recovery was never complete, being confined to her home and subject to periodical returns of weakness and suffering. Her husband and other members of the family lived in a state of solitude and anxiety for her welfare until on Friday morning, Feb. 10th, having lived 64 years 11 months and 14 days, she quietly passed into a sleep from which she was to wake no more on earth.

Her attachment to her home and her solicitude for the comfort and welfare of her family were noticeable and pronounced characteristics of her make-up and disposition. Her wifely and motherly traits were so strong that she held not only those of the family who were near but those who were far away to her and to the old home in confidence and esteem.

As she came down toward the close of her earthly pilgrimage, she seemed to anticipate that the end could not be far away. She remarked more than once to her husband that should the end come soon - as she seemed to feel it might - she was willing to go and not afraid to die.

To her daughter, who was with her during the last days before her death, she said, speaking about her condition, 'I am ready when the end comes.'

Besides a stricken husband, with whom she had traveled for more than 46 years, she leaves 11 children, 42 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and a large circle of friends and neighbors to mourn her loss.

The surviving children are Frank R., of Winside, Nebr.; Mrs. Frank Plumb of Hillsdale, Iowa; Charles E. of Silver City, Iowa; C.V. of Wellington, Colo.; J. Ray of Hastings, Iowa; E.N. of Wellington, Colo.; Roscoe S. of Hastings, Ia.; Mrs. S.J. Anderson of Malvern Iowa; Ralph E., Hosmer G., and Clifford L., all of Hastings Iowa.
