GLENWOOD OPINION-TRIBUNE
DATED THURS., JULY 7, 1932:

DEATH CAME AS
RESULT OF AUTO
ACCIDENT FRIDAY

This community was shocked last Friday when the word came that Jack Raynor, eleven-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Raynor, who was returning with his father from the West Coast, where they had attended the International Convention of Rotary in Seattle, had been killed in an automobile accident near Rawlins, Wyo., and that Mr. Raynor had been seriously injured.

Jack was born at Gravity, Iowa, March 1, 1921, and came with his parents to Glenwood five years ago. He was an exceptionally bright, alert lad with a genial disposition and a winning smile, which won for him at once many friends.

He entered school here and had this spring finished fifth grade work. In his school life he was a general favorite with teachers and classmates. He was a lad who loved the outdoors and found enjoyment in his frequent visits to the farm home of friends in this community. The spirit of comradeship and good fellowship which existed between he and his parents was an outstanding characteristic and just like the pals which they really were he and his father had gone together to the Rotary convention, where Jack had been a popular favorite with the Rotarians there assembled from all parts of the world.

Hundreds gathered to pay tribute to the memory of this lad at the funeral services which were held at the Funeral home here Tuesday afternoon. Busy men and women left office, store, bank and farm, and stood bare of head and moist of eye beside the children who had been his playmates, for Jack was beloved by young and old in this community.

Floral tributes came from people in all walks of life as well as form organizations in he community and in their profusion and beauty added to the expression of sorrow which was felt, and likewise an expression of sincere sympathy for the parents.

The service was conducted by Rev. J. F. Bingaman, of the Methodist church and Rev. J. Irving Brown of the Christian church. Mrs. Mary Logan Yates sang “When He Cometh,” “Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus.” She was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Frank Kemp, and the following lines were read by Mrs. Frank W. Choate:

Near shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God’s free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew,
Shedding its sweetness day and night.

As it grew and blossomed, fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall,
Through which there shone a beam of light.

Onward it crept with added strength,
With never a thought of fear and pride,
It followed the light through the crevice’s length
And unfolded itself on the other side.

The light, the dew, the broadening view,
Were found the same as they were before;
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing its fragrance more and more.

Shall claim of death cause us to grieve,
An make our courage faint or fail?
Nay, let us faith and hope receive;
The rose still grows beyond the wall.

Scattering fragrance far and wide,
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forevermore.

The flower ladies were Rosemary Rodman, Evelyn and Corinne Bernard, Opal Wheeler, Mary Lucile Dashner, Elsie Evans and Mrs. Sam Boyer.

The pallbearers were Dr. W. M. Plimpton, Will Powles, Louis Rodman, Clay Dashner, Harold Deitchler and D. H. Moses.

The body was laid to rest under a bank of flowers in the family lot in the Glenwood cemetery.
