Betty Jean (Hammers) Bare, age 71, of Malvern, died Nov. 6, 2006, in Mt. Ayr. Funeral services were held Nov. 10, 2006, at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Pastor Jan Phillips and Pastor Pete Long officiated. Burial was in the East Liberty Cemetery in Malvern.

She was born Jan. 9, 1935, in Hamburg to Martin and Wilma (Carmen) Dresher. She was married to Joseph Eldon Hammers and they had six children, Joseph, Martin, Linda, Phyllis, Joanne and Roger. Her husband died in September of 1986 and 10 years later, on Sept. 24, 1996, she married Woodrow Bare. She embraced his children, Pam, Diane, Woodrow, Kenneth, Debra, Lilly, John, Cindy, William, Denise and Tammy and loved each of them as her own.

She was employed as a med-aide at Pacific Place in Pacific Junction until her retirement. She attended church in Bradyville for many years. Collecting chickens was a favorite hobby she enjoyed.

Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband Joseph Hammers; daughter Tammy Bare; one granddaughter; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

She is survived by her husband, Woodrow Bare of Ellston; children: Martin Hammers of Hastings; Linda Scott of Council Bluffs; Phyllis Buckner of Malvern; Joanne Bullock and husband Shelby of Ellston; Roger Hammers of Clarinda; Pam Bare and Diane Bare both of Detroit; Woodrow Bare and wife Josie of El Paso, Texas; Kenneth Bare of Wichita, Kan.; Debra Wingerd and husband Mike of Glenwood; Lilly Stone and husband William of Cartersville, Ga.; John Wade and wife Jill of Malvern; Cindy Wade of Glenwood; William Wade and wife Anna of Pacific Junction; Denise Woods and husband Mike of Council Bluffs; sister, Karen Goode of Council Bluffs; brothers, John Dresher and Dale Dresher both of Tabor; Ed Dresher of Nebraska; leaving 64 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends to celebrate the life of this wonderful lady.

A memorial fund has been established.
