Dennis David Freed, age 54, of Glenwood, died Nov. 6, 2006, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Nov. 9, 2006, at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor with Rev. Rod VanWey officiating. Interment was in the Tabor Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Rommel-Conklin VFW Post #7064 of Tabor.
He was born Dec. 26, 1951 in Council Bluffs to David and Mary (Brandt) Freed. He graduated from Fremont-Mills High School in Tabor in 1970. He completed two years of college before enlisting in the US Army in 1971 serving for two years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he was a military policeman.
He worked as a resident treatment worker at the Glenwood Resource Center for 25 years where he made many friends. Dennis enjoyed reading and was an avid coin collector. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He looked forward to yearly fishing and camping trips to northern Iowa and Minnesota with his dad, brother and nephew, Andy. He liked celebrating birthdays, holidays and especially Christmas with family. He was known for his generosity to all his family and friends. He spent his last eight months at Linnwood Estates where he made good friends of the staff and residents.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Freed. He is survived by his mother, Mary Freed of Tabor; sister, Kathleen Driever of Tabor; brother, Matthew Freed of Rochester, Minn.; nieces and nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Memorials are suggested to Linnwood Estates Activity Fund in Glenwood.
