FUNERAL SERVICES HELD ON FRIDAY FOR MRS. LAMBERT

Long Time Resident of This Community Passes After Years of Invalidism. Services Held At L.W. Lambert Home In This City

Missouri Hubbell, daughter of Garrett V. and Elizabeth Hubbell, was born Aug. 17, 1858. She passed away at home of Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Lambert, Aug. 6, 1935, after being a helpless invalid for six years, at the age of 76 years 11 months and 24 days. The intense heat of the past four or five weeks was very hard for her to endure and she was taken worse on Friday, Aug. 3, and became weaker until the end came, when she peacefully went to sleep without a struggle.

She came with her parents and a colony of friends overland in covered wagons from Ohio, in the year 1872. The trip took six weeks. They landed in Mills county and remained until spring of 1873 when they went on to Hamilton county, Neb., where the father filed on a homestead of 100 acres of land.

Zou, as she was familiarly known, was one of the helpers to fight prairie fires and guard the younger children from the Pawnee tribe of Indians that traveled the Platte River bottom every fall and spring. A sod house was built and the place was made comfortable except for the fear of Indians and prairie fires.

After three years in Hamilton county, Nebraska, the family returned to Mills county, where Aunt Zou resided until the time of her death.

She was a life-long member of the Glenwood Congregational church.

In January, 1883, she was united in marriage to Asahel Lambert. To this union one daughter, Ethel Pearl, was born. She lived only a few brief months. The loss was deeply felt by the parents and a few years later they adopted a little homeless girl whom they loved and cared for as their own. She was sent to the Glenwood school until graduated, after which she married Walter Campbell of Kansas.

Mrs. Lambert leaves to mourn her passing her adopted daughter and grandson, George Asahel; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Lambert and Mrs. Sadie Dean; one brother, Charlie Hubbell, all of Glenwood. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Lambert on South Locust street in Glenwood on Friday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. J.F. Stille, pastor of the Emerson Baptist church and a long time friend of the family. He was assisted by Rev. D.W. Dobson of this city.

Music for the service was furnished by Rev. and the Rev. D.W. Dobson. The flower ladies were Mrs. J.M. Donelan, Mrs. Harry Hamilton, Mrs. Harry Cheyney and Mrs. Frank Choate. Those serving as pallbearers were: R.E. Humphrey, T.Q. Records, S.M. Estes, Clyde Rhoads, W.S. DeMoss and Thomas Kirk.

Interment was made in the Glenwood cemetery.

Among the relatives and friends from out of town in attendance at the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Campbell and son, George Asahel of Norton, Kansas, Lewis Lambert and daughter, Lydia of Ravenwood, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Lambert and daughter, Susan of Hastings, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Hubbell of Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Hubbell of Denver, Colo., and his sister, Florence from Spirit Lake and her sister, from Harlan, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Zack and Calvin Lambert, and Mrs. Mary Parson and daughters Lillian and Louise and son, Milo all of Percival, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Frazier and daughter, Anna Mary of Malvern, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Mayberry of Pacific Junction.
