GLENWOOD OPINION-TRIBUNE
DATED MARCH 10, 1955:

Morris Kaiman, a man who started out in business in Glenwood as a peddler of fresh fruits and vegetables, and built one of the city’s leading businesses, died Sunday at Rose Memorial Hospital in Denver. His death occurred abut 4 a.m.

Mr. Kaiman first suffered a heart ailment about 10 years ago, but his health improved until a little more than a year ago when he began suffering severe heart attacks. About seven weeks ago, he went to Denver, Colo. to visit with his daughter, Dr. Sarah Kaiman Koscove, and became critically ill. Admitted to the hospital there, his condition gradually became worse until the time of his death.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Jewish Funeral Home in Omaha. Burial was at Fisher’s Farm south of Omaha.

Mr. Kaiman had reached the age of 73 years. Born in Poland, he came to the United States when he was 12 years old. He and Mrs. Kaiman were married in Omaha.

Mr. Kaiman first came to Glenwood in 1920, and here began an almost unbelievable story of the building of a business by a man who “pulled himself up by his bootstraps.” He “started from scratch” peddling fruits and vegetables on the streets. About a year later he opened a store on the south side of the square. It was located in the section of the present Omaha Fruit and Grocery Store in which the meat department and part of the fruit and vegetable department are located . Later, as business increased, he purchased the Myers Furniture Store and used the building to double the size of the store.

He retired from the active business life about ten years ago.

Mr. Kaiman is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bertha Kaiman; five sons, Robert, Louis and Percy of Glenwood, Nathan of Des Moines, and Martin of Kansas City; one daughter, Dr. Sarah Koscove of Denver; and seven grandchildren.
