The following obituary is copied from the Council Bluffs Nonpariel dated January 23, 1978:

Verne B. “Bill” Epperson, 77, resident at the Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Grand Island, Neb., died there Sunday after an extended illness.

He was born near Pacific Junction and resided 60 years in Council Bluffs before going to the veterans home.

He was a retired self-employed painter-decorator, a World Was II veteran, and member of the Rainbow Post 2, American Legion.

His wife, Ann, died in 1974.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Carlson of Rockford, Ill., Esther Bender and Irene Sorstokke, both of Hensler, N.D.; a brother, Gerald of Omaha; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Woodring Chapel. The Rev. Richard D. Hogan, pastor of First Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will be at the Glenwood cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at the chapel.
