Jeannette Baldwin, 83, Van Meter

Jeannette Y. "Billie" Baldwin, age 83, of Van Meter, died March 29, 2006, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. A memorial visitation was held on, April 1, 2006 at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Mrs. Baldwin's remains were cremated.

She was born on Feb. 21, 1923 in Hamburg, to Marion and Fannie (Brown) Garrett. She graduated from Glenwood High School and worked at Boeing Aircraft in California as "Rosie the Riveter" and later for the United States Selective Service System in Glenwood. She married Austin E. Baldwin in Omaha, Neb. on May 18, 1947, and together they owned Western Hills Electric Company in Omaha.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Austin; three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her son Gary and wife Rhonda of Van Meter; brothers, Royce Garrett of Crofton, Neb.; Richard Garrett of Mission Hills, Calif.; and Ross Garrett of Glenwood; one sister, Cay Melby of Atascadere, Calif.; three grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
