Paper: Dubuque Daily Times (Dubuque, Iowa)
Page: 2It is evident that Gov. Carpenter does not believe that the person who, when followed and captured by farmers in pursuit of the murderer of Lassaux, the Creston merchant, exclaimed, “You have got me at last,” and cut his throat was really Lassaux’ murderer, as it first supposed. For, though he said nothing about Lassaux, if he was not his murderer, who was he, and why should he kill himself rather than be taken?
Gov. Carpenter on Tuesday issued a proclamation offering $500 reward for the arrest of the murderer of Lassaux, and of J. T. Burnett, escaped from jail at Glenwood, where he was held for the murder of H. L. Brister.
