Young Wife Terribly Burned; Will Die

A frightful accident took place Monday evening out in Center township, and as a result Mrs. Earl Eichelberger lies at the point of death with no hopes of her recovery.

The Eichelberger family lived on the Walter Aistrope farm three miles northwest of Malvern. About six o’clock last night, Mrs. Eichelberger lighted her oil stove and threw the match on the floor. Her dress became ignited and she was horribly burned before assistance could arrive. Her body from the waist down is the most severely burned.

Physicians were hurriedly called, Dr. M.E. Corbin came from Malvern, and Dr. W. M. Plimpton of Glenwood was hurried to the home in the C.W. Boles auto. It was at once evident to the doctors that the woman was beyond medical help, and the best that could be done was to ease her intense suffering by opiates. A telephone message this afternoon states that the unfortunate woman cannot live more than 24 hours at the most.

Mrs. Eichelberger ran screaming from the house, and her cries attracted the attention of her husband, who came to her rescue as quickly as possible and threw water on her burning clothing.

Mrs. Eichelberger is about 25 years old, and has a little baby boy, 16 months old. She is a daughter of J.W. Pointer, the Malvern photographer. The family moved from Malvern to the Aistrope farm two years ago.
