29 December 1904The Quaker church four miles north of Glenwood was crowded on Christmas night to see the first wedding to be held in the edifice. There were 275 people inside and some were standing outside unable to gain entrance. The church was nicely decorated with a large arch and Christmas bell. Joseph Kates and Miss Amy Hyde were the happy couple. Rev. Joseph Stille officiated at 8:30. Following the ceremony a supper and reception was held at the home of the groom's mother, Hester Kates, 50 people attending. The bride is a daughter of Elijah Hyde. Both are worthy young people.
