M.C. Harover is cashier of the Citizens Bank of Henderson, and to the performance of the tasks which devolve upon him he brings to bear sound judgment and a spirit of unfailing enterprise. Kentucky numbers him among his sons, his birth having occurred at Frankford, May 13, 1861. His father, Alexander Harover, removed to Mills County, Iowa in 1876, , settling upon a farm near Henderson, where his remaining days were passed. Before coming to Iowa, however, he took his family to Ohio. In 1880 M.C. Harover came to Iowa and entered business circles as a clerk in a mercantile establishment. After a time he bought out the store in which he had been employed and conducted the business in a partnership relation, his associate being J.B. Fickel. For a time Mr. Harover carried on merchandising in Hastings and in Griswold as well as at Henderson, but he has now withdrawn from that field of business in order to concentrate his energies upon financial affairs.

On the 1st of August, 1901, he aided in organizing the Citizens Bank of Henderson and from the beginning has continuously served as cashier, with H.K. Forsyth as president. The institution is capitalized for ten thousand dollars and in addition to conducting a general banking and loan business they also have an insurance agency. They have erected a find small brick bank building, thoroughly modern in its equipment, and G.T. Harover, a son of M. C. Harover, is acting as assistant cashier of the bank.

In 1882 Mr. Harover was united in marriage to Miss Flora Wearin, a descendant of one of the oldest families in Mills County, and to them was born one son, Milburn B. The wife and mother passed away and Mr. Harover married again, his second union being with Miss Ella M. Ellis of Aberdeen, Ohio. They have six children, as follows: Mrs. Ina May Owens; G.T.; Mrs. Marion K. Houser; Octavia M., who is deputy postmistress at Henderson; William Champ; and Mary E.

In his political views Mr. Harover is a democrat and, keeping well informed on the questions and issues of the day, is able to support his position by intelligent argument. Fraternally he is a Mason, an Odd Fellow, a Modern Woodman and an Elk. He is loyal to the teachings of these beneficent orders and is ever ready to extend a helping hand to his brethren in the fraternities. His intellect early grasped the eternal truth that industry wins and industry became the beacon light of his life. He realizes, too that there is no success without effort and he has never been afraid of that laborious attention to business which is always the fore-runner of success.
