Helen Rubee Gall, 98, of Ankeny, formerly of Albion passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011, at home in Ankeny.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 26, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mee of the Albion United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation with the family will be one-hour prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to Albion United Methodist Church in Albion. Helen Rubee Nelson was born on October 6, 1913, in Spencer, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Benjamin F. and Victoria Isabel (Havens) Nelson. She attended school in Spencer, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1932 and then passed the NE boards to teach school for three years. On September 23, 1934, she was united in marriage to Otto Gall (they had eloped and kept it secret for two weeks!). They had lived in Nebraska, South Dakota, moved to Iowa in 1944 and then to Marshalltown in 1950. Helen had taught in country schools, worked in food service for Anson for 8 years and Iowa Veterans Home for 20 years retiring in 1983. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, games and "cheating at cards".
Left to cherish her memory are her children; B. James (Peg) Gall of Union, Glen G. Gall of Urbandale, Gene O. (Phyllis) Gall of Clinton, Illinois, Kathy E. Brindle of Ankeny and Victoria (Donnie) Wilson of Albion, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; Benjamin and Victoria, her husband Otto in 1971, sister Marilyn in childhood, brother Daniel at birth, sister Jeane Cook and one grandson.
