Born on October 12th, 1955, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Robert Edwin and Leora C. (Mann) McKibben. He graduated from the BCL High School's Class of 1974. He later attended college in Huron, South Dakota.
On June 27, 1981, he was united in marriage to Kristine Dull at the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. They made Albion their home all of their married lives. In 1976, Rich began working for Fisher Controls.
Rich served on the Liscomb Volunteer Fire Department from 1976 to 1981 and currently the Albion Fire Department. He attended Elim Lutheran with his family and enjoyed bicycling, time with friends and family, gardening (receiving his master gardeners certificate), bicycling (RAGBRAI and Wisconsin), flea markets, camping, fishing, hunting, tinkering in the garage, telling jokes and stories and pulling pranks on friends and co-workers. In 1995 when Fisher's downsized, he embarked on the greatest adventure of a lifetime. He and the Iowa 150 (marking the 150th year of Iowa Statehood) made a bicycling venture across the United States beginning in California. The group joined RAGBRAI that year and then peddled on to the east coast. After his return, he was employed in different jobs until beginning work at Marshall County in the Road Department as a maintainer operator from 2000 until retiring on February 29th, of this year. One of his biggest passions was working on the fire department. He was an Iowa State Fire School instructor in the 1970's and 80's.
Left to cherish this man's contagious smile, sense of humor and love of life are Kris- his loving wife of 30 years, sons: David of Pella and Matthew of Marshalltown, his parents Robert and Leora, mother-in-law Kathryn Dull, brother Ellis of Liscomb, sister Connie Arnold of Bluffton, Indiana, and her children Jeff and Jennifer; brother-in-law Kevin (Kris) Dull of Marshalltown and their children Alex and Annie; his Labrador Stella, several aunts, uncles, cousins, his "adopted mother" Darlene Lunsford across the street in Albion and many, many friends.
In death, he rejoined his grandparents Lucille and Harry Mann and Lester and Alma McKibben, nephew Austin Dull and father-in-law John Dull.
