JOHN M. ADAMS DEAD

Well-Known Veteran of Civil War Dies at Deaconess.

John M. Adams, a well-known resident of this city and a veteran of the civil war, died at 11:45 o'clock Wednesday night at the Deaconess hospital of heart disease. Mr. Adams, who is a member of the soldiers' home, was on furlough when taken ill and removed to the hospital.

Mr. Adams was born in Charleston, Ill., Oct. 5, 1844. He enlisted in Company A, 133d Illinois volunteer infantry, Aug. 1, 1862, at Charleston, and was discharged July 3, 1865, at Springfield, Ill. Shortly after his discharge from the army he returned to Charleston, where he was married, May 10, 1866. In 1870 Mr. and Mrs. Adams came to Iowa, settling in this city. Mrs. Adams died here Dec. 24, 1908. Mr. Adams entered the soldiers' home, Aug. 8, 1917.

Mr. Adams is survived by four daughters, Mrs. B.L. Hotchkiss, of this city; Mrs. L.L. Mackaman, of Waterloo; Mrs. G.H. Langford, of Sioux City, and Mrs. C.H. Woodis, of Seattle, Wash. Mr. Adams was a member of the Baptist church and the G.A.R.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Simkins & Estel undertaking parlors. Burial will be in Riverside.
