Memorial

Doris L. Flynn, 96, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday April 7, 2020 at Heritage Specialty Care from COVID-19. A private family burial will take place at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. The graveside service may be viewed at http://client.tribucast.com/tcid/20330385. The live stream will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10th.

A Celebration of Doris’ Life will be announced at a later date. Entrusted with the services is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Doris was born on June 20, 1923 on a farm Northeast of Grinnell, Iowa to Hilding and Laura (Anthony) Johnson. Doris graduated from Grinnell High School. On March 21, 1947 she married Homer W. Flynn in Marshalltown. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1950. Homer died in 1977.

Doris is survived by her children, Kathy (Rod) Peterson of New Berlin, WI, Sandy (Steve) Tomash of Fairfax, Rick Flynn (Mary Kennedy) of Cedar Rapids, and Wendy (Mike) Meeks of Richmond, TX. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Teresa Beers, David Beers, Kari Tomash, Todd (Melissa) Tomash, Jamie (Mark) Achey, Amanda (David) Frank, Michael (Jenni) Meeks, Jennifer Meeks, Matthew Meeks (Samantha Philips) and eleven great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brothers, Dale (Luella) Johnson of Vinton and Jim (Marilyn) Johnson of Chelsea.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Walter and Harold Johnson.

Doris was employed by the Cedar Rapids School District where she worked at Roosevelt Junior High Cafeteria for 21 years. Doris was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of New Encounters.

Doris’ family would like to say a sincere thank you to Heritage Specialty Care for the wonderful care that Doris received for the last 2 ½ years.
