NORMAN L. LEGG
Norman Lawrence Legg was born on July 25, 1931 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Lawrence Malcom and Rose Tillie (Lawrence) Legg. He was raised and educated in Marshalltown, graduating from the Marshalltown High School in 1951. He attended the Marshalltown Junior College for two years, and entered the United States Army in 1953. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, he was united in marriage to Retta Cunningham on June 10, 1956 in Gladbrook, Iowa. He was employed by the Times-Republican for over thirty years, starting out as advertising executive, and later became the Classified Advertising Manager. His wife Retta died in September of 1986, and he later re-married on July 9, 1995 to Joan Smith in Marshalltown. He was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church, member of the First Congregational Church, former board member of the Kidney Foundation (local and national chapters), and was an honorary member of the Marshalltown Kidney Dialysis Unit.
Norman is survived by his wife Joan Smith-Legg of Marshalltown; daughter, Melody (John) Korlaske of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Dana (Mary) Legg of Schaumburg, Illinois; step-son, David (Tammy) Smith of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Collin and Francesca Smith; son-in-law, Denis Mudderman of Rochert, Minnesota; sister, Rosemarie Lukehart, of Des Moines; two sisters-in-law, Doretta Cunningham of Marshalltown and Marie (Rick) Benda of Gladbrook; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Retta; daughter, Randi Mudderman; granddaughter, Carolyn Retta Mudderman; sister Virginia Weidler and brother, Richard Legg.
