Helen Pearl Groeneveld, 77, went to be with her Lord Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2011, at the Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, IA.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at the Center Street Baptist Church in Marshalltown. Pence - Reese Funeral home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. Rev. Bobby Shomo and Rev. Greg Boyle will conduct the services. A visitation with the family will be held 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, at the church. In lieu of flowers: memorials in Helen's name are being designated to Center Street Baptist Church, Marshalltown Cancer Support Group or Iowa River Hospice. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in the East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Eldora.

Helen, the daughter of Dr. Kenneth H. and Lillian P. (Nelson-Norton) Weaver, was born March 8, 1934, in Webster City, Iowa. She graduated from the Union, Iowa High School, Class of 1951.

On January 6, 1952, Helen was united in marriage with Dean Groeneveld at the Church of Christ in Union. They had lived in the states of Texas and Georgia and in Eldora, Iowa, prior to making their home in Marshalltown for over 50 years. She received her Degree as a Practical Nurse from Marshalltown Community College in 1977. Helen devoted her life to her husband, children and family. She was a longtime member of the Center Street Baptist Church in Marshalltown; Iowa Poetry Association; and area garden clubs such as Marshalltown Garden Club, Russ O'Harra Hosta Society and Central Iowa Day Lily Society. She enjoyed crocheting; gardening; painting pictures and participating in art groups; and was an author with several of her poems and a Christmas play "Portrait of Christmas" being published.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Lynn Marie; infant great-granddaughter Alysha Longwell; and a sister Pauline Weaver Penrod.

Those left to honor Helen's memory include her loving husband Dean; three daughters and sons-in-law, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren: Sandra and Bob Polley of Marshalltown, [grandchild Aaron (Angie) Polley, great-grandchildren: Kalyn & Hunter; grandchild Megan (Ben) Johnson, grandchildren: Grace, Chloe & Kate]; Denise and Bill Bogan of Union, [grandchild Jennifer (Steven) Longwell, great-grandchildren: Christopher, Nathan & Jeanette; grandchild Genya (Cory) Clemons, great-grandchildren: Taylor & Ella; grandchild Telea Bogan]; and LuAnn and Bruce Lawrence of Marshalltown, [grandchildren: Lindsey Lawrence & Reece Rose; grandchild Lona (Andrew) Bradbury, great-grandchildren: Cody, Emma & Lillian]; her son Darin Groeneveld and his girlfriend Theresa Williams of Marshalltown; and her many nieces, nephews and friends.
