Donald G. McKee, 67, died Saturday, November 24, 2012, at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service at 622 Main Street, Center Point, Iowa, by Deacon Michael McCarthy. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Ray Post 376 of Walker.

Survivors include his father, Grant (Marcella) McKee of Walker; his children, Jeremy (Renee) McKee of Walker, Jeffery (Courtney) McKee of Urbana, Jamie McKee of Walker, Michelle (Zach) McAdams of Salem, Iowa, and Jenna McKee of Gilman, Iowa; his special friend, Lynne Pothast of Gilman; five grandchildren; and sister, Patty McKee of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor.

Don was born May 4, 1945, the son of Grant and Eleanor (Polk) McKee, in Walker, Iowa. He graduated from Walker High School and then served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. Don wore many hats. He started out as an apprentice carpenter before working as a correctional officer at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. He worked hard lobbying the legislature to bring collective bargaining to the State of Iowa for Public Employees. Don served for many years as the President of AFSCME Council 61. He also served on AFSCME'S International Executive Board. In his later life, Don worked as a computer programmer for Circle Computer Resources in Cedar Rapids and then as an operations manager for Crystal Distribution in Cedar Falls.

He was a member of the Walker United Methodist Church, American Legion in Marshalltown and very involved with the Democratic Party.
