RESIDENT OF COUNTY FOR 86 YEARS DIES

Samuel Bentley, a resident of the Bangor and Albion neighborhoods for over 86 years, died Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home of his nephew, Lowell Reeser, at Dike. He had been in poor health for a number of years but had not been bedfast. The cause of death was angina pectoris. Mr. Bentley was born on June 20, 1852, in Peru, Ind., the son of Ezra and Rosetta Bentley. When he was a little over a year old he came to this county with his parents in a covered wagon and settled 1 1/2 miles west of Liscomb. He had been a farmer all his life and all of the last eight months he had lived in the northern part of this county. Eight months ago, he went to make his home with his nephew. He was married in Marshall county to Miss Sarah Vantreese. She died Dec. 22, 1939. There were four children born to them, two sons dying in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. B. J. Vantreese, dying just a week ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lelah Thorn of this city, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was the last of a family of six. Mr. Bentley was a member of the Methodist church in Albion. Services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Pursel funeral home with burial in the Albion Cemetery.
