STAVANGER MEETING HISTORIAN DIES

Mrs. Malinda Ann Thompson, historian of the Stavanger community, the settlement of Norwegian Friends near Dunbar, died at 3:45 Friday afternoon at her home, a quarter mile north of the Stavanger meeting house after an illness of four months. She had been in failing health for the past two years. A resident of the Stavanger community for 30 years, she was an elder and overseer as well as corresponding secretary of the Stavanger monthly meeting, or church. She was born Malinda Ann Heggem Aug. 8, 1957, in Des Moines, the second child of Peter Christian and Anna Serena Heggem. In 1860 her parents moved to Story county, near Huxley. She attended the LeGrand Friends academy and married to Helge Thompson Jan. 18, 1879. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson moved to the Pickering neighborhood where Mr. Thompson died Nov. 22, 1888. After Mr. Thompson's death, Mrs. Thompson and her two sons moved to Dunbar where they lived for four years before moving to the Stavanger neighborhood where she had since lived. Surviving are two sons, Peter H. Thompson of the Stavanger neighborhood and Thomas H. Thompson of this city; four grandchildren, Myron and Randall Thompson of this city; Mrs. Leone Gersdorf of New York City an Alma Louise Thompson of Stavanger, and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Ann Anderson of Lake Norden, S.D. Four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Stavanger meeting house, preceded by short services at the family home at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Stavanger cemetery. The body will be removed from the Estel funeral home to the family home Sunday morning. The family has requested no flowers.
