Jennie L. Davis, 84, of Gilman died at her home Tuesday, April 9.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Gilman Community Church, with the Rev. Rich Gamble officiating. Pallbearers were Chad Altemeier, Andy Davis, Atul Gupta, Mike Stufflebeam, Mike Wood, Larry Wood and Byron Worley.

Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman, with the Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of Myron and Mabel Stroud Wood and was born July 5, 1911, in Putnam County, Mo., where she was raised and received her education.

She was married to Carmel Davis Nov. 2, 1935, in Unionville, Mo., and the couple moved to the Gilman area to farm.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Gilman Community United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship of the church, the Gilman Friends of the Library, the Today and Tomorrow Club and the Good Neighbor Club. She was active for many years with 4-H, serving as a leader, Marshall County committeewoman and judge at the Central Iowa Fair.

She is survived by her children, Gary of Grinnell, Truman of Sunnyside, Wash., Dennis of Mt. Eden, Ky., and Janet Altemeier of Gilman; two brothers, Neal Wood of Cincinnati, Iowa, and Robert Wood of Unionville, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Marvin Wood.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gilman Community Church or the Gilman Public Library.
