RITES SET FOR
CARMEL DAVIS

Carmel C. Davis, 61, of Rte. 1, Gilman, died Sunday afternoon as University Hospitals in Iowa City, where he had been hospitalized since Dec. 20. Mr. Davis was a prominent Angus breeder in the Gilman area and was active in Gilman community affairs.

The son of Jeff H. and Laura Ratliff Davis, he was born March 6, 1912, near Unionville, Mo. He came to Iowa as a young boy and lived near Gilman and Grinnell most of his life.

On Nov. 2, 1935, he was married to Jennie Wood at Unionville, Mo. The couple had four children: Gary C. Davis of Rte. 3, Grinnell, Truman W. Davis of Sunnyside, Wash.; Dennis E. Davis of Grinnell; and Mrs. Doyl (Janet) Altemeier of Rte. 1, Gilman.

Mr. Davis was a member of the Gilman Community United Church of Christ and held several positions with the church. He was also a past president of the Gilman Farmers Co-Op Elevator and a former member of the Co-Op board of directors. He was a past president of the Gilman Lions Club and the Tallcorn Angus Association. For many years he worked with the Marshall County 4-H Committee.

He is survived by his wife; four children; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Graham, Mrs. Gail (Alice) Mullinex, and Mrs. Troy (Hester) Lewis, all of Unionville; and a brother, Paul Davis, also of Unionville. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Mr. Davis will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Gilman Community United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Russell D. Rasmussen, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
