Brother of Resident Died
Kenneth “Sam” Clement, 79, of Rhodes died of lung cancer Sunday, January 17, at State Center Manor. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, at Rhodes United Methodist Church, and burial was in Eden Cemetery.
Mr. Clement was born in Mingo and lived in Rhodes most of his life, retiring as owner of Clement DX. He was a former city council member and fire chief.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Marvel Ellis of Marshalltown; two sons, Dan of Rhodes and Rick of Marshalltown; a sister, Thelma Walker of Toledo; a brother, James of Colfax; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Iowa, USASam moved to Rhodes in 1934 to work for Les Gearhart who owned the D-X Service Station. He came from the Maxwell area, with his parents, a brother James and a sister Thelma. He started renting the station in 1938 and in 1945 purchased the station and retiring in March of 1978. He and his wife made their home on a acreage in the south part of Rhodes.
