Edd O. Signs Services Held

Funeral services for Edd O. Signs, 78, of Newton were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 10, at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, conducted services. Burial was in the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Memorial contributions to the First Lutheran Church organ fund will be accepted.

Mr. Signs died Monday, November 7, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, of complications following open heart surgery.

Survivors are his wife, Estella; a son, Dale of Estherville; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Marjorie) Schlotfeldt of Houston, Texas; four granddaughters, Nancy and Luann Signs of Estherville, Mrs. James (Judy) Scraggs of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Tom (Derby) Sheppard of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Alta Nicodemus of Colfax, Jessie Shuey of Marshalltown, and Ora Hanson of Baxter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Pearl Jones, and a brother Earl.

Mr. Signs, a farmer in the Baxter community for 26 years, was a member of the First Lutheran Church, 30-year member of the BPO Elks, a member of the 60 plus Club and a lifelong member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau.

The son of Joseph E. and Ida Mae Hampton Signs, he was born January 18, 1899 in Clear Creek Township.

He was married to Estella M. Klopping January 5, 1921, at Des Moines. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines (IA) Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News Thurs 17 Nov, 1977.
