John R. Cavort,better known as "Honest John," of Marshalltown, is dead as the result of a stroke of paralysis. He was 82 years of age and had quite a remarkable history. Before the Civil War he lived in the south and was an auctioneer when slaves were sold under the hammer. He conducted many slave sales and was regarded as very successful in the business.
