Funeral services for Mrs. Frank H. Long were held in the Ohde Funeral Chapel Sunday afternoon at five o'clock, April 23, 1944. The Rev. Arthur Raeside, pastor of the Presbyterian church conducted the final rites. Burial was in the Manning cemetery. Pallbearers were Albert Wiese, Julius Wehrmann, Henry G. Martens, Alfred Kuhl, Henry Meyers and John A. Lewis. H. C. Pahde and C. M. Johnson sang two duets, accompanied by Mrs. Henry W. Hagedorn. Rosaline Elizabeth Arney, oldest daughter of Solomon and Eliza Arney was born in Marshall county, Iowa, February 25, 1861, and died at her home in Manning, April 21, 1944, at the age of 83 years. Her family were early pioneers of Marshall county, coming to Iowa in 1849. She was born on the homestead which is still in the family after 95 years. She received her education in the rural school of the neighborhood – here grew to womanhood. When thirteen years old she became a Christian, and united with the Old Bethel Church which was long a historical landmark in central Iowa. On Sept. 21, 1879 she was united in marriage to Frank H. Long. In March, 1880 they moved to a farm in Crawford county. In 1882, when the town of Manning was started, they bought a farm one-half mile north of town where they lived and brought up their family. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, who died January 9, 1909, and by three daughters, Mrs. W. Schelldorf and Mrs. Robert Halford of Manning, and Mrs. Frank Bostwick of Rochester, Michigan, and one grandson, Berkeley Halford. Three daughters, Mrs. Harland C. Hurd of Garwin, Ia., Mrs. Nola Boss of Des Moines, and Miss Corda Long who lived in the home with her mother, survive her; also two brothers, Mr. C. E. Arney of Albion, Iowa, Mr. P. F. Arney of Marshalltown, Iowa and one sister Mrs. Emily Crouse of Denver, Colorado. Grandchildren are Orlo Schelldorf of Manning, Dr. Frank W. Hurd of New York City, Lt. Cuthbert C. Hurd, New London, Conn., Mrs. Beverly Klagge of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Roberta Miller of Burbank, California, Rosalyn and Roxena Webber of Garwin, Iowa, Mrs. Frank Henwood, Gordon and Joan Boss of Des Moines. There are six great-grandchildren. Both Mr. and Mrs. Long were charter members of the Church of Christ which was organized in 1882. During the years, Mrs. Long served in many places of leadership in various lines of activity in the church and bible school. The church always had first place in her life. She was a member of the Woman's Club, Garden Club, and both Presbyterian and Methodist Bible Study groups.
