Debra (Mrs. David) McGowan, 54, of rural Gladbrook, died early Tuesday morning, February 24th, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 27th, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook with Pastor Robert Doner officiating. She will be laid to rest in a private family service at the Maple Hill Cemetery north of Gladbrook. Visitation will be held from 4-6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Peace Church. Born Debra Lea Kroeger on April 8th, 1954, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of O. Lynn and Clydene (Carter) Kroeger. She graduated from the Gladbrook High School in 1972 and later AIB in 1973. On August 26th, 1973, she was united in marriage to David McGowan at the Salem Church of Lincoln. The two had their first date on March 25th, 1969 and from then shared nearly 40 wonderful years together. They have always lived in the Gladbrook/Lincoln community where she worked at Casey’s while her children were little and the past 17 years at AEA #267 in Marshalltown. Deb treasured her family, especially her grandchildren, friends, singing, scrap booking, and following Iowa Hawkeye Basketball and Football. Left to cherish her memory are David, her loving husband of 35 years, three children: Erin (Rob) Rindels of Iowa City, Carrie (Matt) Stasch of Iowa City, Brian (Lindsay) McGowan of North Liberty, five precious grandchildren- Austin and Tyler Rindels, Alexis and Lauren Stasch and Logan McGowan, her siblings- Linda (Mark) Goos of Gladbrook, Nancy (Ron) Boldt of Dysart and Charles (Connie) Kroeger of State Center, her step-father Elmer Bern and his family, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents and grandparents.
