Phyllis E. Shaffar, age 71 of Union, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009, at her daughter’s home with her family by her side and under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A gathering of family and friends will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 18, at Biersborn Funeral Home in Union. There will be no service. Private family burial will be at a later date. Phyllis was born April 10, 1937, the daughter of Edward H. and Marian F. Johnson Hansen in Dike, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Dike and was united in marriage to Richard L. Shaffar on August 25, 1954. The Shaffar family has lived in Union since 1970. Phyllis was employed for several years at the Union Supper Club. She enjoyed the friendship of many people and loved spending time with her family. Everyone will remember “Flo” sitting at the table with her iced tea and listening to her scanner. We love and miss you Mom! Phyllis also enjoyed country music, playing cards and watching NASCAR.
Phyllis will be missed by her children, David (Ardy) Shaffar of Maxwell, Danny (Jolie) Shaffar of South Range, WI, Janice (Lee) Collins of Union, Judy (Ray) Clark of Union, Vicki (Joe) Follis of Brule, WI, Gary Shaffar of New Providence; brother Gary (Carol) Hansen of Centralia, WA, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and husband Richard in 2005.
