One of seven children, Ruth Juanita Branch was born on August 24, 1920 to Attie & Anna Hanson Branch of rural Stanhope, IA. Ruth has the fondest memories of her childhood working and living on the farm. She was a good storyteller; telling her stories to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. In 2007 she wrote her “Memoirs” and published them for her families, as a tribute to her parents for the wonderful life she had with them. And of course, Ruth not only had cooking as her career but also as her hobby. When “grandma” was cooking, everybody who could smell the aroma, were on their way to her kitchen.
On August 2, 1940 in Webster City, IA, Ruth was united in marriage to Clifford D. Gage. They first made their home in Webster City until 1953 when they moved to Marshalltown, where Clifford had arranged for a job at the Times Republican where he worked until his retirement. Ruth started working at the Anson Junior High School Cafeteria shortly after their arrival to Marshalltown and retired as the school’s Cafeteria Manager in 1982.
Left to cherish Ruth’s many memories are two sons, Larry Gage of Marshalltown and Vern (Connie) Gage of Holiday Lake, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a sister Pauline Nelson of Chicago, IL, one brother, Willard Branch of Bettendorf, IA, several nieces and a nephew and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Clifford in 2000, one son Richard in 1951, two sisters and 2 brothers.
