Ronald Billman, 86, of the Iowa Veterans Home, formerly of State Center, died January 14, 2009. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Brent DeSilva officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to State Center United Methodist Church or the Iowa Veterans Home. Ronald Wayne Billman was born on May 19, 1922, in Albion, Iowa. He was the son of Raymond and Mary (Plavets) Billman. He graduated from Albion High School. Ronald served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1943-1945. He was awarded 5 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal for his service in Central Europe. He married Frances Brown on June 29, 1943, before entering the service. Frances died in 1961. He later married Delores Dunn on May 5, 1963, at the State Center United Methodist Church. The couple lived their entire married lives in State Center, either rural or in the city. Delores died on February 2, 2008. Ronald was a farmer. He cared for livestock, including cattle, hogs, and chickens. He also sold seed corn for a number of years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and socializing with friends in Colo. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Jeanette (Tom) Bower of Ankeny, David (Linda) Billman of Marshalltown, Diane Radloff of Bettendorf, Ronald (Susan) Billman of State Center, Barb Patterson of Gilman, Mark (Lisa) Billman of Plymouth, MN, Denise (John) Levings of Marshalltown, Renee (Carl) Norman of State Center, and Christine Blue of Melbourne; his 21 grandchildren; his 18 great-grandchildren; his nephews, nieces and several cousins. In death, he has rejoined his parents; his first wife, Frances; his second wife, Delores; and his sister, Mary Louise Handsaker.
