Dorothy Mae Wedgwood, 93, of Marshalltown died Saturday, January 31st, 2009 at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 6th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Rich King officiating. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. There will not be a visitation held. Memorials may be directed to her family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dorothy and her family, phone 641-844-1234. Dorothy was born on June 22nd, 1915 in Marshalltown to parents Mary and Benjamin Wedgwood. She attended school in Marshalltown and graduated from Marshalltown High School. Following graduation, Dorothy worked at Swifts for about a year, and then worked at Fisher controls for about five years. Dorothy then decided to move to California, where she worked as a maid. Five years later she returned to Marshalltown, where she worked the next 40 years at Fishers. After retiring, Dorothy and her life-long friend Mabel traveled to many places. Dorothy was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, UAW, and the 1st Presbyterian Church. She very much enjoyed bowling, playing softball, fishing, her travels, and caring for her yard, which was always her pride and joy. Left to celebrate Dorothy’s life is her sister Helen Allen of Escanaba, MI; her brother Delos Wedgwood of Overland Park, KS; her brother Earl Wedgwood of Marshalltown; her brother Dale Wedgwood of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews, as well as friends. In death, Dorothy has rejoined her parents, her brothers James, Ralph, Wayne, and Carl Wedgwood; and her sisters Ruth Wise and Alice Dennis.
