Tena Schoon, 97, of Grundy Center, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. February, February 13, 2009, at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in Holland with Pastor Larry Hoop and Pastor Larry Doughan officiating. Private family burial will be in Holland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Tena was born on June 24, 1911, in Holland, Iowa. She was the daughter of Heye and Orentje “Alice” (Franken) Heronimus. She received her education in Grundy County schools. In 1931, she married Harold Schoon, the son of John and Bertha Schoon. After farming for 34 years, Tena and Harold bought the General Merchandise store in Holland, but later returned to the farm. Harold and Tena were the parents of Joyce, Paul Dean, and Jerylin. The couple retired in 1970. They purchased their new home in Holland and lived there together until Harold passed away. Tena later became a resident at Grundy Center Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.

Tena was a member of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church and several groups within the church. She enjoyed being a farm wife, taking care of the home, sewing, and having tea parties with her sisters.

Tena is survived by her children, Joyce (Keith) Holeman of Toledo, OH, Paul Dean (Linda) Schoon of Marshalltown, and Jerylin (Harley) Getting of Hibbing, MN; her seven grandchildren; her fourteen great-grandchildren; and her two sisters, Ivadean Itzen of Cedar Falls, and Delores Bakker of Grundy Center.

In death, she has rejoined her husband, Harold Schoon, who passed away in 1980; four brothers, six sisters, and one grandson.
