Daniel R. Gilman, 87, of Marshalltown formerly of Stuart, passed away at the Iowa Veterans Home. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the Johnson Family Funeral Home – Stuart with burial in South Oak Grove Cemetery. Open visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. Tuesday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stuart Rescue Unit and/or the Stuart American Legion. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuenralhome.com.

Daniel was born February 10, 1921 in Adair County, Iowa to Albert and Estella Grace Gilman. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1938. Dan enlisted into the United States Army in February of 1942. During this time he was stationed in New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Southern Philippines, and Luzon before being honorably discharged in November of 1945. Dan also was awarded the Bronze Arrowhead and two Bronze Stars. After being discharged, Dan returned to Stuart and operated large equipment on construction projects until retiring.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Helen Huot, 2 nieces and one nephew.

Survivors include one nephew, Robert Huot of Sun City, Arizona and other relatives. (Arrangements: Johnson Family Funeral Home).
