Helen E. Bland, 88, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center while in the care of her loving family and Iowa River Hospice. Helen’s wishes were to be cremated and no funeral services be held. Private family burial will be at a future date in Indiana. There will be no visitation. Helen Esther Boltz was born on June 13, 1920, in Worthington, Indiana. She was the daughter of Roscoe and Ivy Boltz. She attended school in the Bloomfield, Indiana schools. On September 9, 1935, she married Omer Bland in Newton, Illinois. Helen was a homemaker. The couple lived in Indiana their entire married lives. Helen moved to Marshalltown 6 years ago, living at Southridge for the last 3 years. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, doing yardwork, cats, and being outdoors. Helen is survived by her son, James(Gloria) Bland of Marshalltown; her 3 grandchildren, Chris(Amy) Bland of Gladbrook, Polly Hupfeld of Eldora, and Angie(Rich) Fehrmann of Eldora; her 4 great-grandchildren, D.J. Fisher, Mikayla Fisher, Nikki Fehrmann, and Presley James Bland; and her sister, Jeannie Higer, of Brazil, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Omer, who died on January 23, 1983, at the age of 97; her brothers, Richard and Dick; and her sister, Midge.
